Cheryl Clinton a.k.a. Cherie Intuitive Navigation

MAY 8 – JUNE 8, 2014
Reception May 10, 5 – 7PM

Cheryl Clinton, Woodland Water Flood, acrylic.
Cheryl Clinton’s paintings capture the moods, colors, and patterns of the landscape. While taking direct cues from the natural world, all of her paintings convey her interpretation of the idea of space and light, and are as much about the nature of paint and painting as they are reflections of nature.

Clinton first became passionate about art growing up in Framingham, Massachusetts. After earning a bachelor’s degree from the Massachusetts College of Art, she traveled to Europe, where the waterways of Venice and the surf of Skopelos Island inspired her sense of the natural world. She then went on to complete her master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Her family’s move to Boylston, Massachusetts, renewed her childhood memories of the unspoiled beauty of rural New England. Clinton’s paintings have been exhibited at galleries and museums throughout New England; her paintings are included in numerous private and corporate collections in the United States and abroad. The artist now lives with her family in Holliston, MA.

Artist Statement

My work has always been inspired by nature and my place in it.  As my situation in life has changed – from student to teacher, single to married, child to parent – so has my view of the landscape. As the landscape of my life has changed, so has the nature of my artwork.  Always grounded in observations of the natural world – sky, water and earth, the work also reflects my emotions and intuitive response to the painting.

While initially many of my paintings take direct cues from the natural world, all of the paintings are created in the studio, and are as much about the nature of paint and painting as they are reflections of the natural world. My goal is to create a contemplative visual space – a space that embodies a spirit, a space that acts as a passage between our world and one that may exist within and beyond ours.

Nan Hass Feldman The Garden and Beyond: New Painting

APRIL 10 – MAY 4, 2014
Reception April 12, 5 – 7PM
Artist Talk and Poetry Reading with Alan Feldman
May 3, 5 – 7PM

Nan Hass Feldman’s paintings, whether oil, acrylic, or mixed media, are stylized, yet recognizable, and vibrantly colorful. Often intricate, playful, enlivening and upbeat, her work focuses on the subjects of interiors and landscapes.
Nan Hass Feldman, The Chapel on the Cliff
Inspiration for these new paintings comes from the artist’s recent experiences on the Greek island of Skopelos and in the jungle area of Boca de Tomatlan, Mexico.
Nan Hass Feldman’s paintings evoke a child-like joy, and yet a more sophisticated appreciation of the possibilities of seeing a subject endlessly – through vibrant color, pattern, texture, and imagination.

Framingham artist Nan Has Feldman has had countless solo exhibitions throughout her distinguished career.  Her work is in numerous corporate and university collections, as well as in the collections of the Danforth Museum and in private collections in France, England, Italy, Spain, Japan, and Sweden. She teaches at Danforth Art and the Worcester Art Museum, as well as in Europe and Mexico, and paints in her studio at Fenway Studios in Boston.

In conjunction with the exhibit, a Poetry Reading with Alan Feldman, along with a talk by the artist, will be held May 3, from 5 – 7 PM. Alan Feldman, an award-winning poet, will read from his newly published chapbook Flowers in Wartime, a collection of 28 short poems written during the opening months of the Iraq war. A signed limited edition of Flowers in Wartime , illustrated with six paintings by Nan Hass Feldman, will be available for purchase,  with all proceeds to benefit the scholarship fund at Danforth/Art.

WICKED Group Show

Juried by Hope Turner and Zola Solamente of Arden Gallery, Boston
January 30 – March 2, 2014
Reception Saturday, February 8, 2014, 5 –7pm

Our third anniversary (can you believe it?) Juried Show, entitled WICKED, runs from January 30 – March 2, 2014. A Reception will be held Saturday, February 8th from 5-7pm.

The theme was deliberately wide-open to interpretation by artists, while taking inspiration from the way the way the word wicked is used here in New England.

The Gallery aims to showcase contemporary art that is original and exciting, so we asked professional artists working in all media to show us work that was cool, excellent, and ‘wicked awesome.”

And they did! Nearly 200 artists, some from as far away as Texas and Oregon, submitted over three hundred works of art to this show. Jurors Hope Turner and Zola Solamente, of Arden Gallery in Boston, made some difficult decisions, and ultimately selected 36 pieces by 30 artists for inclusion into the show.

Refresh...

Ahh, Summer....
no limit, our summer juried show, was fresh, with" a distinct way of looking at the world, and a kind of clarity of intention… artists that are making art that I haven't seen before, and that are introducing me to new ways of looking at the world, “ according to juror Kathryn Markel.

We were sad to see it go.
The gallery is unusually quiet in August, as we take a breath and enjoy the last days of summer.
Quiet, but not still.
We take this time to reflect, retool, refresh-ourselves, the space, and our plans for the future.

The Fall schedule is ready-

Scout K. Austin's solo show, BEE BUZZ, runs from September 5, 2013 - October 6, 2013. Please join us for a Reception, Saturday, September 7, 5 - 7 pm.
Looking Out from Inside, Scout K. Austin, encaustic mixed media.
Austin’s work focuses the viewer’s attention on the essential honeybee by highlighting both the beauty of the honeybee’s life and the serious threats to the honeybee’s existence. By combining lush, bright color with contradictory, menacing darkness, Austin’s work encourages the viewer to take a deeper look at an important and species in crisis.
